I'm trying to access its vehicle history, but every site I've checked demands a 17-digit VIN. Can anyone recommend a site where I can find this information...

Is there a site that allows for shorter VINs? I've heard that older VINs can be 'converted' to 17 digits, but I haven't found any instructions on how to do so.
